Jonsson positive ahead of Oldham test

Midfielder expecting a tough test against Latics...

Eggert Jonsson is keen to build on the positives from Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield United ahead of Tuesday’s Checkatrade Trophy match against Oldham Athletic.

Town defeated Blackburn U23’s in the opening group match but are coming into this game on the back of a 95th minute equaliser from the Blades on Saturday.

“It was disappointing to concede a last minute goal on Saturday,” said Jonsson.

“It’s good to get a game quickly after that and put things right and get that victory that we need.

“It’s a different competition than the league so we get a break from that but at the end of the day, you go into every football match looking to win and that will be no different against Oldham.

Oldham currently sit bottom of Sky Bet League One having only won one of their opening 11 league fixtures, but Jonsson is expecting a difficult night.

“We expect a tough game,” said the Icelandic international.

“I’m sure they’ll be trying to get results as well so it will be a hard fought game. We know it will be hard but we will be prepared for that.

“The last minute goal we conceded feels like a defeat but we need to focus on the positives and do everything we can to get that win.

“It’s good that this game comes quickly. You can forget about Saturday now – it’s gone and we have another game coming up which we need to win to get the morale back and the good feeling.

“I’m sure there might be a few changes where some boys will get their chance but you have to take that chance when it comes and be ready.”
