Midfielder delighted with squad mentality

Bobby Grant has spoken about his side’s ‘great team spirit’ ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League One fixture against Gillingham.

Fleetwood will be hoping to get back to winning ways after slipping to a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of Millwall last week, but Grant insists the team are a tight-knit group.

“There is belief at the club,” said the former Rochdale man.

“One thing we have got this season is a great team spirit and we don’t blame anyone for the defeats. We win and lose games as a team. It’s never nice to get defeated but when you’re defeated by two penalties it’s even worse.

“The lads worked hard and done great to get six points from nine last week and we will going into the game full of confidence because we’re at home.”

Despite Gillingham not winning in their last six league matches, Grant is expecting a tricky game against Justin Edinburgh’s side.

“It’s going to be a tough game,” said Grant.

“We’ve done a bit of work on their team and we’re expecting a physical game but if we know that we get our energy levels back to what they have been against Peterborough, Chesterfield and the second half against Millwall then we’re very confident we can get a result at home.”

“We think we should be picking up the three points every time we play at home.”

The midfielder has also praised the atmosphere around the club and is pleased to see that everyone is working towards the same goal.

“Not just the playing staff, it’s the manager and everyone around the club has a positive attitude and I think that’s massive and helps on the pitch.

“It shows on the results and the performances on the pitch that we all know what we’re doing and pulling in the right direction. We all want to be successful.”
