Development Squad Head Coach looks forward to first game against Burnley
Development Squad Head Coach Paul Murray has spoken about his desire to ‘develop a winning mentality’ in his young side.
Murray joined the Cod Army at the start of the month and will take charge of his first match against Burnley on Tuesday at Poolfoot Farm.
“I’m looking forward to it,” said Murray, who was previously with Sheffield Wednesday.
“You obviously do your sessions during the week and you want the stuff you’ve been doing during the week to come out in the game. I’ve told the players what I expect from them as individuals and as a team and let’s see if they can produce this on Tuesday against Burnley.”
“We’ve got to want to win – that’s the name of the game. I’ll be motivating the guys to do that and we’ll see how they go during the game in terms of game management by making the right decisions under pressure.”
Murray – who made over 400 senior appearances in the football league as player – is pleased with what he has seen from his players thus far.
“There’s defiantly some players with some attributes that I really like and I’ll be homing in on them,” said the former QPR midfielder.
“I’ve been pretty basic and simple with them in terms of what I’m after from them individually. My job here is to improve them, make them better, give them a bit more game understanding and then make them fit for the first team really. I’ve seen some good attributes in the players so far, but it’s my first game tomorrow so it will be interesting to see them live.”
“If they’re winning 2-0 can we see the game out, or if we are a goal down how would we respond and get ourselves back in it.
“I’m looking at all their different scenarios involved in the game. Look – I’ve played for 20 years, I want to win. It’s about developing them but it’s about gaining that winning mentality as well.”
Paul's Development Squad face Burnley at Poolfoot Farm on Tuesday 15th November 2016, with kick-off at 12pm.
