Head Coach quotes from post-match press conference
Head Coach Uwe Rosler spoke with the media after Tuesday night’s 4-1 Emirates FA Cup First Round replay win over Southport.
Below are a full transcript from the Gaffer’s interview.
On his reaction to the win…
UR:“We ended the game on a very positive note, I think that was needed after unnecessary headed goal over the long distance. All credit to Southport they took us right to the end like we expected. We went 1-0 up and we didn’t continue the way that had worked for us, invited them and they punished us right at the death. Four minutes before the end. In extra-time I think the players showed tremendous mentality. After we got a big knock to come back like they did I’m very pleased.”
On bouncing back after losing at Port Vale last Saturday…
UR:“We bounced back and we scored four goals. We did what we had to do in extra-time, also to keep the ball going to try and save as much as we can for Saturday.”
On progressing to the Second Round of the Emirates FA Cup…
UR:“Sometimes when you have in the first round play against a team that’s below in the leagues you struggle but you come through. Hopefully that’s a good sign to have a good cup run because I’ve done it in the past with several clubs. Now we go to Shrewsbury and try to go to the third round.”
On the performance of Amari’i Bell…
UR:“Yeah I think the way he plays, he comes more often now in those situations because we demand him to attack and defend because that is his game. For him it’s very good, it gives him more confidence to go in those areas and look for goals.”
On the performance of Southport over the two matches…
UR:“All compliment to them (Southport) they made it difficult. We were leading 1-0 and we didn’t continue. The gameplan had worked, Devante Cole did some very very good things out on the side, we kept him out wide and isolate him and he’s been very good but they came strong back, they never gave up and forced us to extra time.
