Midfielder looking forward to FA Cup clash
Kyle Dempsey has called on his Fleetwood Town teammates to ‘seize the opportunity’ in Monday’s Emirates FA Cup First Round tie with Southport.
The Cod Army travel to Merseyrail Community Stadium 57 places above their hosts in the football pyramid, but the on-loan Huddersfield midfielder is relishing the challenge.
“We want to get on a good run in the FA Cup,” said Dempsey.
“Obviously it’s a massive competition – probably the biggest cup you play in as a club. With no disrespect to Southport, but it is a great tie for us to try and advance to the next round.
“We’ve got to seize the opportunity, give it everything we’ve got and hopefully advance to the next round.
“I think I got off to a good start and I think I’ve shown in the games since that I’ve been putting in some good performances. That’s the main thing for me is to just get out on the pitch, play well and impressing everyone.”
Southport have not lost in three National League matches with including winning their last two fixtures, and Dempsey is expecting Steve Burr’s side to give Town a tough night.
“We expect them to come at us all guns blazing because at the end of the day it’s the FA Cup.
“It’s a massive game for them in the First Round and they’ll be thinking the same about trying to advance and get a big team in the later rounds.
“We will need to settle the game down and play it at our tempo if possible and seeing out the win.”
The match will also be broadcast live on BT Sport, and Dempsey is looking forward to showcasing his, and the rest of his team skills, across the world.
“It’s a chance to show what you’re about,” said the former Carlisle United man.
