Last Time Out


Town were defeated 4-2 in the Checkatrade Trophy at Carlisle on Wednesday night, meaning they would progress no further in the competition. Goals from Joe McKee, Charlie Wyke and Danny Grainger had the Cumbrians 3-0 up at half time, but Jack Sowerby and Alex Jakubiak pulled it back to 3-2. Cameron Salkeld wrapped up Carlisle’s win late on.

 

Port Vale were also in action in the Checkatrade Trophy. A 0-0 draw at League Two side Doncaster Rovers saw the game go to penalties. Vale won the shoot out 4-3 but it wasn’t enough to progress to the next round of the competition.


Ones to Watch


Jerome Thomaswas made one of Port Vale’s four joint captains in October, and has experience in the Premier League. He’s best known for his 100 appearances for West Brom from 2009-2013 and played a key part in Gary Neville’s last game for Manchester United – with the Reds legend saying, “he destroyed me.” The winger can also play upfront and played a key part in Rotherham United’s Championship survival last season. The 33 year old has also played for Crystal Palace, Leeds, Portsmouth and Charlton, having started his career at Arsenal. He’s featured eleven times for Vale this season.

 

, on loan from Birmingham City. The forward has been out injured, but the club are hopeful he’ll make a return on Saturday. Having scored eight goals in all competitions, including six in his first eight games, Jones could pose a dangerous threat to the Cod Army back line on Saturday should he feature. has a strong Football League pedigree and has featured consistently for Port Vale this season. Signed from Blackpool in the summer, the Stoke-On-Trent native has also played for Orlando City in the MLS, but notably for Burnley where he played for over five years, including in the Premier League.
