Town secured their passage to the area final of the JPT

The Cod Army began December by progressing through to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area Final after beating Morecambe 2-0 in the semi-finals.

Two second half goals from David Ball and Jimmy Ryan were enough for victory in a match where Steven Pressley’s side dominated for large parts.

It was to be a frustrating afternoon at Crewe Alexandra for Town in their next game as they were held to a 1-1 draw against the Railwaymen.

Ryan Lowe gave the hosts a 5th minute lead as he fired low into the far bottom corner before Ball equalised sooner after with a finish into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Ball went close to putting his side ahead in the second half, while Eggert Jonsson also hit the post, but missed opportunities cost the Cod Army all three points.

Boxing Day saw Fleetwood travel to Shrewsbury, and the visitors were behind early on again as Jordan Clark’s shot was diverted in by Liam McAlinden after six minutes.

Ball and David Henen had a great chances to level for Town before half-time but goalkeeper Mark Halstead denied the duo brilliantly.

Halsted was beaten though when substitute Ash Hunter latched onto Tariqe Fosu’s pass to slot beneath the keeper in the 86th minute.

Two late goals condemned Town to defeat at home to Wigan Athletic in their final game of 2015 as they were beaten 3-1 by the Latics.

Wigan took the lead when Andy Kellett's dragged effort bobbled under Chris Maxwell, and they struck the bar twice before Antoni Sarcevic levelled from the penalty spot.

The visitors picked up the points when Jordy Hiwula converted a parried shot by fellow substitute Yanic Wildschut, before Michael Jacobs slotted home to secure victory.
