Cod Army host Crewe Alexandra at home on Sunday afternoon

Eggert Jonsson is confident that Town will retain their status in the third tier on Sunday afternoon as they face Crewe Alexandra at Highbury.

The Cod Army currently occupy 20th place in the league and sit two points ahead of local rivals Blackpool who make the trip to Peterborough.

Jonsson insists the whole squad want to bounce back with victory after Monday’s defeat at Walsall, but is wary of the threat Crewe will pose.

He said: “We didn’t show our true face at Walsall and didn’t do what we should have done. We were disappointed with the manner of the defeat.

“It’s gone now though and we just have to move on as a team. We’re lucky we’ve got this game on Sunday to put things right and bounce back.

“It’s a massive game for both us and Blackpool really. We’ve got a chance to send our local rivals down and stay in this division.

“In the situation we’re in though we can’t really be thinking about what other teams are doing. The good thing about it is that it’s still in our own hands.

“We believe we can stay up because we know what we’re capable of. Over the course of the season we’ve shown we’re more than capable of competing.

“For Crewe it can swing either way on Sunday because they’ve got nothing to play for and the pressure if off them. They can play with freedom.

“We got a draw at their place earlier in the season but it was one of them games where we deserved more and should have won.”
