Pressley: We have to show a better mentality

19 March 2016

The Cod Army were beaten 2-0 by Barnsley this afternoon

Steven Pressley has urged his players to show a better mentality to get out their situation after losing at home to Barnsley this afternoon.

An own goal at the start of the second half by Joe Davies was doubled late into the game as Josh Scowen met a corner at the front post to head past Chris Maxwell.

The result means Town remain in 19th place and now face a crucial test away to Chesterfield at the Proact Stadium next weekend.

After the game, Pressley said: “We came out of the blocks very aggressively and I was pleased with a lot of our aspects in the first half. We were very much on the front foot.

“But we’ve just talked as a group and the biggest disappointment was that when we lost the goal early in the second half, we let it impact our performance.

“We have to show a greater deal of courage than that and have to show a better mentality to get out of this situation that we find ourselves in.

“In the second half when the ball went into their box they won the first contact every time, and we have to be more aggressive than that.

“We can’t allow that to happen in the future and have to react to setbacks much better, because between now and the end of the season there’s going to be questions asked of us.

“The first goal changed the game completely because like I said in the first half it was a game where we were very much in control.

“A little less than two weeks ago we were on a positive run and there was a really good feel good factor around the place.

“Football can change very quickly though and three straight defeats isn’t great reading. We must put an end to that by winning at Chesterfield next week.”
