The Cod Army lost 2-1 at the Pirelli Stadium this afternoon

Steven Pressley gave an honest assessment of today’s defeat to Burton Albion and admitted his side didn’t deserve anything from the game.

The Brewers went ahead in the first half when Mark Duffy rifled an effort past Chris Maxwell from the right hand side of the area.

Substitute Wes Burns made an immediate impact off the bench at half time and replied within minutes of coming on with a close range finish.

But Duffy netted his second of the game in the second half before Bobby Grant was given a straight red card soon after coming on.

Pressley said: “We weren't good enough today. That was the first time I can come away from a game and honestly say that we didn’t deserve anything.

“They started more aggressively and were better in all aspects of the game, and the one thing I said before coming here is that they’ll ask questions of us.

“They do that and they do that to great effect. We didn’t answer those questions in positive fashion so overall it was the right result. We deserved to lose the game.

“Today was the first time we really dropped our levels and didn’t play with the same intensity. We didn’t pressurise the ball in the manner I know we can.

“We were outfought on 50/50 moments and I was really disappointed. We’ve set standards and I want a response on Tuesday night.

“I thought Wes Burns was the shining light from the game. He brought and energy and aggression that we were lacking. He did really well.

“The only other thing we can take from today’s game is that other results went in our favour, but we can’t really rely on that happening.

“We need to take care of our performances and making sure we win our games because even though they’re top of table, I expect us to come here and win.”
