Manager offered his thoughts after the Gills gameSteven Pressley felt his side’s determination got them through their game against Gillingham as they recorded their second successive win this evening.
Goals in the first ten minutes from Wes Burns and Shola Ameobi put the Cod Army ahead before Luke Norris replied later in the first half.
There were to be no more goals after the break as Town dug deep to pick up their third win in four league games to move them to 17th place.
Pressley said: “I didn’t think it was our most fluent performance in terms of football but I thought we started really aggressively and were really positive.
“We got off to a wonderful start by scoring two goals in the opening ten minutes, but we had to dig deep at times as they gave us problems in the wide area.
“We changed the system slightly and I was really pleased with the way the players went about it. It was really though tonight and the conditions were difficult.
“The most important thing was the three points and not the performance. There was a real determination about the group.
“We found a way to win and defended set plays exceptionally well because they’re a good side from them. We also won a lot of first contacts, especially in the second half.
“One of the reasons I made the change tonight with Shola coming back in was because they were a team in general who gave up opportunities to cross against them.
“We managed to cross brilliantly for his goal, and in the early stages of the game he was a constant threat for us.
“Wes was also superb for us tonight but I had to change it a little towards the latter part of the game because he’s played a lot of football since coming here.
“He hadn’t done that prior to coming here so he had a little problem with his hamstring and we didn’t want to take a chance with that.”
