Development squad beat Rochdale 4-2 this afternoon

Barry Nicholson thought his side’s display in the second half of this afternoon’s 4-2 victory over Rochdale at Poolfoot Farm was outstanding.

Three well taken goals from Bobby Grant and a solitary strike from Louis Myers won the game for the development squad against an experienced Dale outfit.

First team players Jack Sowerby, Nick Haughton, Keano Deacon and Grant were all involved as Town secured a comfortable win in the end.

Nicholson said: “I was really pleased with the boys today. Obviously we lost a goal early again and for the first 20 minutes I don’t think we really got near them.

“It’s not like us because we've usually got a genuine bunch of lads who go out and do it properly, but we were sloppy in possession and let them play on the ball.

“Gradually we managed to get into the game and began to show our qualities, and in the second half I thought we were outstanding.

“The performances recently have been really good, and although we conceded two today our display going forward was great and we deservedly won the game.”

Nicholson praised three goal hero Grant’s contribution to the cause and the impact he had on the younger players.

“Bobby’s really good for the group because he has a voice and brings a lot of experience to it. He helps the young boys through and speaks to them during games.

“That’s really vital when you’re a young player because if you have experienced ones around you it sort of coaches you along during the game.

“He was great and showed a fantastic attitude to go along with the three goals he scored. It was brilliant for him and he was really good."
