Town's youngsters lost narrowly to Burnley this afternoon

Fleetwood Town’s development squad were beaten 2-1 by Burnley in a friendly fixture at Poolfoot Farm this afternoon.

The Cod Army fell behind early on but responded well and grew into the game with Nick Haughton netting a fine goal.

The Clarets then went in front for the second time at the start of the second half, and held on for the win at Town’s training complex.

Manager Barry Nicholson said: “It was a defeat for us today but I thought it was another good performance from the lads to be fair. What killed us was our start to both halves.

“We lost a goal in the first few minutes of the first half and then the same occurred in the second period and we can’t do that against a side like Burnley.

“After going behind early on we gradually got a grip of the game and started playing some really nice stuff and looked a threat going forward.

“Most of the lads impressed me today and I was really pleased with centre halves Bradley Roscoe and Nathan Sheron in particular.

“They were up against two experienced lads in the form of Ashley Barnes and Chris Long, but they dealt with them well as they were a handful.

“It was pleasing to see us try and play our from the back once again and working the ball through the thirds. I was generally pleased with the all round performance."
