Assistant manager on Blades test at Highbury Stadium
Having won three out of their last four league games, Town assistant manager Neil MacFarlane wants the players to continue their momentum on Saturday afternoon. The Cod Army host Sheffield United at Highbury looking to make it three wins on the bounce against the Blades who sit in 12th place.
Recent victories over Scunthorpe United, Coventry City and Gillingham have moved Fleetwood away from the relegation places and into 17th.
And MacFarlane says confidence is high in the camp ahead of this weekend’s game, but the squad must continue to improve their standards.
He said: “It’s been a really good couple of weeks for us as we’ve picked up three wins from four. We’ve gained some great momentum during that period and it’s important we keep it going.
“Sheffield United haven’t been in great form recently but they’re a very formidable outfit with the squad they’ve got at their disposal.
“But it’s important that we continue to improve our standards and keep trying to get as many points on the board as early as we can towards the end of the season.
“We’ve obviously added a number of players to the squad in recent weeks and it’s given everybody a lift around the place. The players are all fighting for their places.
MacFarlane praised the Town frontline for their efforts in recent games, with Ash Hunter, Wes Burns, David Ball and Shola Ameobi all netting.
“Everybody knows the experience Shola has and he’s been a great voice both off the field and on it. He’s really helped both the young players and everybody at the Club.
“We went through a spell during December and January where we were dominating games but not capitalising on the chances we were making.
“It’s a different story now though with the extra bodies we’ve brought in such as Shola, Wes and Devante. They’re all pushing to get in.
“Ash has done really well recently and of course we had David scoring a great goal last week at Coventry, so we’re starting to get goals now.”
