The Cod Army welcome Barnsley to Highbury on Saturday

Icelandic midfielder Eggert Jonsson believes Saturday afternoon’s game against Barnsley represents the perfect chance to respond to Tuesday night’s setback.

Tom Bradshaw’s strike in the 50th minute was all that separated the two teams at Highbury, a result that meant Town stayed in 19th position.

This weekend they welcome the Tykes to Highbury knowing they can climb away from the bottom pack with three vital points.

Jonsson said: “We haven’t been happy with the results from the past two games and we need to change that because at the end of the day we must start getting wins.

“We need to make sure we take the next game as it comes and not look at others as every game in this league is going to be difficult.

“We’ve been happy with the way we’ve been playing as we’ve dominated most teams, and Tuesday night was an especially hard one to take.

“Barnsley have been on a good run so we know what they’re all about. We’ve played them a few times this season and know what we have to do to win.

“We know we can beat them but it’s all about doing it out on the pitch where it matters. Hopefully we’ll be able to do that.

And Jonsson praised young Scottish midfielder Thomas Grant after he made his full debut for the Cod Army on Tuesday evening.

“I thought Thomas did really well considering it was his first game. It’s always hard to come in but it was good to play alongside him.

“The only disappointing thing for him and the team was the fact we didn’t get anything from the game. He did brilliant.”
