Players will begin their scholarships at the start of July

Fleetwood Town Football Club have recently offered scholarships to seven of their Under 16 squad.

These players will start their scholarships at the beginning of July, with a view to gaining professional status by the time their scholarships end in 2018.

The Club have been working with a number of talented players over a couple of seasons in their elite coaching programme, and are delighted that work with them has already paid dividends.

A number of the newest recruits are locally based, with two hailing from Fleetwood, two from the Blackpool area, and a further three from wider parts of Lancashire.

The players are as follows:

Billy Crellin - Goalkeeper
Ben Unsworth - Right back
Alex Dodd - Midfielder
Jack Bishop - Midfielder/Forward
Connor Finlayson - Striker
Owen Bridge - Striker
Harry Turner - Goalkeeper

Director of Football/Academy Director, Stuart Murdoch, said: “We have high hopes for these boys having worked with them in the Under 16’s age group.

“They’re now on the bottom rung of the ladder and their next target will be to become professional footballers.

“Some have already had experience with Nathan Rooney’s youth team, and between now and the end of this season they will be integrated into the youth team ready for next season.”
