Northern Ireland fell to a narrow defeat in Nice

Sunday 12th June 2016 was another historic day in the life of Fleetwood Town Football Club.

Right back Conor McLaughlin proudly walked out in Nice in front of over 10,000 travelling Northern Ireland fans to represent the nation for the first time at a European Championship finals. He in turn became the first ever Fleetwood Town player to represent his country at an international tournament.

A strong Poland side stood in their way and despite a spirited effort from Michael O’Neill’s men, Arkadiusz Milik second half goal was enough to give Conor’s opponents all three points.

Fleetwood’s defender completed the full 90 minutes of the game and next up is a crucial match against Ukraine in Lyon on Thursday.  (17:00 BST)
