David Ball was delighted to end his pre-season with a brace against Wigan Athletic last night.

The Cod Army striker felt it was a positive evening for the side despite eventually losing 4-3 to their strong Championship opponents.

“It was nice to get myself a couple of goals before next weekend's start to the season ,” said Ball.

“The first one I just managed to get away from the defender and then got a touch and its gone in, a great ball by Ash Hunter.

“The second goal, Ash has won it and I’ve just tried to use the defender and guide it around him and into the bottom corner so I’m happy with them.”

The striker admitted that he thought Fleetwood started out the better team but faded out just before half-time.

“I think we started off really bright,” said Ball.

“We obviously got the goal then we probably gave them too much respect up to half time and they scored some goals that were sloppy on our behalf.

“In the second half, we got to grips with their middle three, put on a bit more pressure and started to get back into the game a little bit.”

But the striker also thought that the sun made an effect on the night’s result as the players were struggling to see the other side of the pitch.

“The lads were complaining that when they were turning, they couldn’t see up the pitch,”said the striker.

Ball then joked: “I think it did but you can’t moan about the sun can you?”
