Youth team boss reserved praise for Dan Mooney

Fleetwood Town youth team manager Nathan Rooney was left feeling frustrated after his side’s 3-1 defeat against Preston North End in the North West Youth Alliance league on Saturday morning.

Tom Barry’s hat-trick condemned the young Codlings to defeat at Chorley’s Victory Park, in what was the first game of the calendar year for the Fylde Coast side.

Speaking after the local derby against the Lilywhites, Rooney offered up his thoughts to the official Club website.

He said: “Coming into the game having had two games called off obviously isn’t an excuse, we turned up feeling quite positive heading into this one.

“We didn’t get out of the blocks quick enough though, and the lads need to understand that as it comes down to a lot of things.

“Overall the game improved throughout and we were the better team in the second-half, so it was disappointing to lose.

“It’s just all about being more aggressive in front of goal, and having your fingers crossed in the hope that things go in.

“We created all the chances in the second-half, I think Dan Mooney was very good, he has come into the team and has stamped his mark and ability on a bobbly pitch.

“With regards to the opposite side of the pitch, I don’t think we defended well enough and could have done much better.”
