Maxwell: We fully deserved the three points

Keeper made his 100th Town appearance this afternoon

Chris Maxwell felt the Cod Army fully deserved their three points against Bury this afternoon in what was his 100th appearance for the Club.

The Welshman helped Town claim all three points at Highbury, and came to his side’s rescue to deny David Flitcroft’s side.

Ash Hunter put Fleetwood ahead just after the interval with a cool finish past Daniel Bachmann, before Bobby Grant ensured the win on 75 minutes.

Maxwell said: “The result was just deserved as we dominated the game from start to finish. It’s been a difficult period recently but it’s important we’ve taken all three points today.

“We created enough chances in the game to score four or five which is probably no different to the majority of the games we’ve played this season.

“We’ve lacked a cutting edge which is going to kill teams off and put pressure on them, rather than us conceding goals and putting pressure on ourselves.

“It was important we hit the back of the net today and made sure we kept the momentum up from the first half.

“I’m pretty sure that people who come to watch the games will say there’s a transformation in the style of football we play. It’s a dominant style of play.”

And Maxwell thanked the Cod Army for their continued support, as he made a landmark of appearances for Town against the Shakers.

“It’s been an enjoyable time here. It was a difficult time for me when I first joined the Club but both sets of staff have been brilliant.

“It’s a real privilege to play for a Club that is so ambitious and does things the right way. I’d like to thank everyone for supporting me.”
