Haughton hoping for first team start on Saturday

Youngster impressed after coming off the bench at Colchester

Nick Haughton is hoping his substitute appearance at Colchester United on Tuesday night will have done enough to warrant a start against Doncaster Rovers this weekend.

The young midfielder impressed at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, and went close to winning the game late on with an effort that went narrowly past the post.

And Haughton believes being in front of the Highbury faithful on Saturday afternoon will boost the Cod Army when Darren Ferguson’s side visit the Fylde Coast.

He said: “It was a good point for us in the end at Colchester on Tuesday night because we’ve played much better than that in recent weeks.

“I was sent on to try and get the three points that we needed, and went close with a curling shot that didn’t quite find the bottom corner.

“We need to get a good run of results going and have some consistency about us. Hopefully we’ll pick up the win on Saturday.

“Obviously having our home fans with us at Highbury is important and we need to pick up as many points as possible at Highbury.

“We’ve played really well and have been unlucky with a few results this season. We’ve got a busy schedule over the next few weeks which is good.

“I always want to be playing football so hopefully we’ll see what happens this weekend, and whether or not I’ll get the nod to start.”
