Grant: We have enough ability to win at Spotland

22 February 2016

Forward scored his ninth goal of the season on Saturday

Bobby Grant believes Saturday afternoon’s victory against Scunthorpe United will have given the whole squad a great deal of confidence ahead of Tuesday’s game at Rochdale.

Grant got on the scoresheet against his former employers when he headed home Antoni Sarcevic’s cross after Ash Hunter had opened the scoring.

A win for the Cod Army will further move them away from the sides in and around them at the foot of the Sky Bet League One table.

Ahead of the game, Grant said: “Results are the most important thing for us at this stage of the season as we need to start getting some more wins under our belts.

“Saturday’s win over Scunthorpe was a massive victory for us, and we’ll be going to Rochdale on Tuesday with a lot of confidence after that.

“If I can manage to score again and get into double figures for the season it would be nice, but like I say the important thing is winning game.

“Rochdale are a good side and Keith Hill is a very good manager. He’ll have them fired up for it and ready to come out and play.

“They’re at home and will fancy themselves, but we’ve got more than enough ability in our squad to beat them.

“If we can apply ourselves properly and get to the work rate we did on Saturday then we’ll have a very good chance of getting a positive result.

Grant admitted that new signing Shola Ameobi has given the whole squad a boost since his arrival, and is keen to forge an effective partnership with the former Newcastle United man.

“The manager has brought Shola in and he’s given the lads a massive confidence boost. You don’t need me to sit here and tell you how good a player he is.

“His career speaks for itself and for me personally I got a massive boost when he signed here because he’s a player who can help my game.

“He’s a massive part of why I did well on Saturday because I can work off him knowing the ball will stick, so it’s great for me.”
