Attacker was deployed in a midfield position this afternoon

David Ball insisted that it was vital the Cod Army didn’t lose this afternoon’s match at Highbury as it ended 0-0 against Shrewsbury Town.

The attacker played in a central position behind the forwards today after injury ruled out midfield trio Eggert Jonsson, Jimmy Ryan and Antoni Sarcevic.

But Ball felt Steven Pressley’s men didn’t quite do enough to threaten the Salop backline, however remains confident of climbing the table.

He said: “I see myself as a player who knows the game really well and the gaffer has asked me to do a job in there today because of our injuries.

“We didn’t probably penetrate for long enough in their half and could have been better going forward. It’s just about finding a way to win a game right now.

“I still felt my hamstring a little during the game but I was happy to get a full 90 minutes under my belt. It’s a tough job for three in midfield.

“You always want continuity in your side when you play so these injuries haven’t helped. Eggert, Sarc and Jimmy are massive misses to the way we play.

“We’ve got a squad though and it’s chances for other players to take. Some people would have hoped they’ve done that today.

“It was three points lost for me but it was important we didn’t lose. The games in hand that we have got could prove to be very important for us.”
