Town and Bury to meet for fifth time

Fleetwood Town will be hoping to build on recent success against Bury when the sides meet on Boxing Day.

Town are unbeaten in all four fixtures against Bury, including winning the last two matches from last season.

The sides first met in September 2013, in an early season Sky Bet League Two fixture at Highbury. Tom Soares had given the away side the lead, before two second half goals from Antoni Sarcevic and Gareth Evans sealed a 2-1 win for Fleetwood.

The reserve fixture at Gigg Lane saw Fleetwood lead twice, but could only manage a 2-2 draw. Sarcevic scored again, this time in the first half before Daniel Nardiello levelled two minutes after the break. Jamille Matt restored Town’s lead, before Nardiello equalised again from the penalty spot to see the points shared.

Last season the sides met in Sky Bet League One, with Fleetwood doing the double over Bury.

Town came out victorious in a seven goal thriller at Gigg Lane in August last year. Goals from Conor McLaughlin, Tyler Hornby-Forbes, Jamie Proctor and Sarcevic was just enough despite strikes from Leon Clarke, Soares and Danny Rose.

The first game of 2016 saw the two teams meet at Highbury. Ashley Hunter and Bobby Grant ensured that Fleetwood began the year with a super 2-0 win over the Shakers.
