Goalkeeper praises hard work put in on training pitch

Alex Cairns claims Fleetwood are ‘working harder and harder each week’ following Saturday 1-1 draw with Swindon Town.

Uwe Rosler’s side are now eight unbeaten in all competitions, but only just after Cairns saved a second half penalty from Michael Doughty at the County Ground.

“You’ve got to guess the right way sometimes and luckily this time I did,” said Cairns.

“He tried to give me the eyes and wait for my movement but I knew what I was doing and luckily I saved it this time.

“We are working harder and harder each week on the training pitch and putting it in with the performances on the pitch.”

Fleetwood will sit eighth on Christmas Day in Sky Bet League One, having not lost since early November away at Port Vale.

“We have to keep going and stay under the radar, and keep getting the results we can to stay unbeaten for as long as possible.

“Swindon are a very good team there’s no taking that away from them, they proved that today and in recent weeks.

“But, we’ve defended well in the past few weeks. Pondy is great leader as is Cian, all of the back four and when we went to a back three I am delighted with them.”
