Irish defender looks ahead to New Year's Eve fixture

Cian Bolger says Saturday’s game with Oldham will be another ‘big test’ as Town look to end 2016 with three points at Highbury.

Fleetwood are unbeaten in ten games in all competitions, and face bottom of the table Latics on New Year’s Eve knowing a win would put them comfortably inside the Sky Bet League One top ten at the turn of the year.

“We know we can do a lot better than we did on Boxing Day,” said Bolger.

“Looking back it was a disappointing result but we knew ourselves we wasn’t at our best but we managed to get a point. We didn’t lose the game which was the main thing in the end.

“They are down there scrapping for their lives at the bottom of the league and they’ll be coming to our place looking to get three points I’m sure. It’s going to be another tough, physical battle one we’re looking forward to and hopefully getting three points.

“It’s another big test.”

Oldham lost 2-0 at high flying Sheffield United on Boxing Day, with Blades manager Chris Wilder praising the Latics as the best team to visit Bramall Lane this season.

“You have to take every team as it comes in terms of treating them with respect,” Bolger added.

“We face a tough battle whoever we play no matter where they are in the league.

“It’s been pleasing to get games and hopefully that can continue. I’ve managed to get one or two goals but I probably should have one or two more to be honest!    I’m enjoying it at the minute.

“It’s been great coming to Fleetwood. I’ve settled in well and I’m really looking forward to the back end of the season and the rest of 2017.”
