Rooney's side record comfortable win

Fleetwood Town Under 18's won 2-0 against a strong Oldham side in the first round of the EFL Cup.

The game started brightly with Fleetwood showing a much better attitude & application than previous weeks, both on and off the ball. As the first half continued, the game lacked fluidity, with the majority of chances for both sides coming from dead ball situations.

Fleetwood grew into their passing game in the second half and began to create chances with free flowing movements, particularly on transition.

The first goal came following some good pressing work, Mooney pouncing on a loose ball and calmly converting into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

A swift counter attacking movement created the second goal with Mooney finding Daly inside the box, the latter remained composed to slot past the Oldham keeper from close range.

Coach Nathan Rooney spoke of his elation after a good all round performance: "We took a positive approach to the start of the week but in the latter stages, the lads were told exactly what need to be evident against Oldham. I'm proud of the response from the players, we will enjoy the victory but come Monday morning, we will ensure we are grounded once again."

The YT continue their season away at Bury next Saturday in the Youth Alliance League (Carrington Training Ground, 11am KO).
