Uwe delighted with start to life with the Cod Army

It’s been a busy start to life as Head Coach of Fleetwood Town, with tonight being my fourth game in just over two weeks.

While it was far from ideal to take the job so close to the season, I feel we have already made positive steps and the response from everyone so far has been excellent.

I’ve so far tried to stamp some of my thoughts and style onto the team, not just on the training ground but also in the video sessions we do with the players.

We’ve also worked hard on setting things up in and around the training ground in the way we like to do things, it’s been very busy but very enjoyable.

It’s very pleasing to see how the club are supporting me with my plans and how the players have responded to me already.

We have just started what I think is a long process with the players and the club.

We have a lot of young players here and they are on a learning curve but they are learning quickly and I believe in the future we will get better as a group.

This week I’ve made my first two signings with Chris Long and George Glendon joining the club, both will bring quality and depth to our squad.

Chris is a player who will be very suitable for the way we play. He is fast, he works the line and he is a goalscorer. He does not need many chances and he wants to prove himself again.

Glendon is a player I know well, we have got him under very good conditions from Manchester City. He is not quite ready now to throw him in but we will build him up. I think he has the technical standards and ability

I am looking for in a midfield player.

Tonight will be a tough game against a newly promoted team but which I hope we will be able to come away with our first win of the season.

Finally, I’d like to welcome Michael Appleton and his Oxford United side, along with the supporters and directors, to Highbury Stadium this evening and wish you all a safe journey home after the game.

Enjoy the game
Uwe
