Midfielder grabbed the equaliser at Northampton on Saturday
Fleetwood Town midfielder Victor Nirennold was delighted to net his first goal for the Cod Army in Saturday’s 1-1 draw away at Northampton Town. The French midfielder connected with David Ball’s flick on to bundle a header beyond goalkeeper Adam Smith six-minutes after the interval, to preserve an opening day point for Uwe Rosler’s side at Sixfields.
Speaking to FTFC’s official website, Nirennold said: “It is my first professional goal, it is a good feeling, and I’m very happy.
“I saw Bobby, and I knew he has a great left-foot, the gaffer told me to run up the pitch as far as possible, the ball came, I headed it, and fortunately it went into the net.
“Hopefully this point will give us momentum going forward, and we can build on it on the next few matches that we have.”
Town host Leeds United in the EFL Cup at Highbury Stadium on Wednesday night, a game that Nirennold is looking forward to.
He continued: “We need to get ready for the next game against Leeds, they are a strong team in the Championship, it will be good to test ourselves against them.”
The number 15 also reserved praise for Fleetwood’s recently-appointed Head Coach, Uwe Rosler, who the 25-year-old says he has enjoyed working with the German.
Nirennold explained: “He has been great with me. He helps me a lot, and has given me a lot of advice.
“He has helped me how to position myself to be an all-round better midfielder.”
