Striker Devante Cole is aiming to score his first goal of the season this weekend

Striker Devante Cole is hoping he can net his first goal of the season for Fleetwood Town in Saturday’s Sky Bet League One match against Southend United.

Despite not opening his account for Uwe Rosler’s side this season, the former Bradford City man has impressed as Town have recorded five points from their opening four league matches.

“I feel good,” said Cole.

“I feel like I have been playing well but I feel like I’ve just been missing a goal but once I get that I think I’ll get one then two and go on.

“I do need to get one (a goal) soon. But once I get one I can settle down and carry on.

The Cod Army suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to high flying Bolton Wanderers last time out, but the 21 year-old says the camp is upbeat heading into the clash with The Shrimpers.

“I think everyone was a bit down because I thought we didn’t deserve to lose.

“If anything, I thought we were the better team and could have gone on and won it. To lose in the last minute is never nice, but we’ve got to pick ourselves up and go again.

“I don’t think everyone has been down. We had Sunday off but then everyone came back in and wants to put it right on Saturday.

“It’s a long way, but hopefully we can go down there and come back with the three points. There’s no point going all that way and not playing well – it’s not what we really want.”
