Fleetwood native will cycle from London to Amsterdam

Fleetwood native Wayne Hayhurst will represent the Cod Army at this year’s London to Amsterdam bike ride for Prostate Cancer UK.

Wayne will be riding Europe on 3-5 June 2016 in what is a 145 mile cycle in conjunction with The Football League.

Last year’s event was a sell out with more than 250 riders – including former international trio Terry Butcher, Matt Holland and Luther Blissett, together with Preston North End boss Simon Grayson.

Wayne said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to represent the Club. My mate Tony Barlow did it last year and he obviously raised the most money so I hope to do as well as him.

“Each rider has to raise a £1,000 so that’s our target, and so far I’ve raised £426 through family and friends and social media postings.

“I started training for the ride back in January and I’ve just got the bug now, I love it. It’d be great if the supporters of Fleetwood could get behind me.

“The first part of the ride is meant to be the hardest as it’s 89 miles up the A12. I’m a truck driver so I know first hand that it’s hilly over those roads.

“My boss’ Father passed away to Prostate Cancer so my company is fully behind me as it’s a charity close to their heart.”

Courtney Bushell, Business Development Officer at the Club, added: “It’s fantastic that Wayne is representing us at this year’s London to Amsterdam bike ride for Prostate Cancer UK.

“It’s great to have such an ambitious individual on board who is keen to raise as much money as possible for the charity.

“We urge the Club’s supporters to get behind him either by donating on a matchday or via his Just Giving page.”
