The Club's new training ground officially opened today

Sir Alex Ferguson hailed the fantastic facilities at Poolfoot Farm after he officially opened the Club’s new training ground this afternoon.

A number of people from the local community were in attendance to witness the ceremony with the former Manchester United manager.

Ferguson paid tribute to chairman Andy Pilley’s efforts in transforming the Club, and believes the new complex will benefit young footballers.

He said: “It really is fantastic when you see the magnitude of what’s happening at Fleetwood. The facility has surprised me and it’s absolutely superb.

“I always admire people with a bit of foresight to plan and prove your set-up. From what I’ve seen at Fleetwood it seems exactly like that.

“There’s an incentive for any kid to come here and practice and improve themselves. This facility certainly lends them to do that.

“Today’s generation have to have a platform to play and it’s up to clubs to give them the enthusiasm to enjoy football.”

And Town manager Steven Pressley added: “It’s been a massive day for this Club. It was great for Sir Alex Ferguson to give up his time to come along here.

“He’s an inspiration to all young managers like myself and it’s great to see him here. He’s always been supportive of myself.

“I’ve met him on a number of occasions and like I’ve said he’s a true inspiration. I think he would appreciate what this facility can do to a football club.

“He’s always been a manager who’s promoted and developed young players, and a facility like this not only helps the first team but also the young lads.”
