Captain returned to the side after lengthy injury setback

Club captain Nathan Pond returned to the Town side for the first time since February after recovering from a hamstring injury picked up in the game against Shrewsbury.

The commanding centre half put in an assured display as Steven Pressley’s men picked up a valuable three points against Peterborough.

And Pond, who partnered Stephen Jordan in the centre of defence, is hoping to play a big part in the Cod Army’s survival between now and the end of the season.

He said: “I was more than delighted to be out there last night and back in the team. More importantly though we got the three points we needed.

“Everyone on that pitch who was in a Fleetwood shirt was tremendous. We all showed 100% and loads of desire and that’s what it’s going to take every game.

“I’ve only trained for a week but have been on the bench for the last two games. I’ve been itching to get back in to try and help the Club get up the table.

“I felt physically good as I’ve been doing a lot of training with the physio while I’ve been injured to try and keep my cardio up.

“I started to tire somewhat towards the last 10-15 minutes, but I had lads around me who were giving it everything and got me through.

“We had plenty of chances to score more than two really, but defensively we did really well to keep them out and restrict them to long range shots.”
