Defender put pen to paper on a deal this afternoon
Richard Wood is hoping for as many minutes as possible under his belt after signing a one month emergency loan deal with the Club this afternoon.Wood put pen to paper on a deal at the Club’s new training ground at Poolfoot Farm in Thornton, and will go into Saturday’s squad to play Port Vale.
An experienced centre back who first started out with Sheffield Wednesday, Wood has enjoyed a fine career and featured for the likes of Coventry City and Charlton Athletic.
With opportunities limited under Steve Evans at Rotherham, Wood now wants to make his mark at Highbury with important clashes coming up over the next few weeks.
Speaking to the Club’s media after signing, he said: “I’m just looking forward to playing now and getting some match time under my belt.
“It’s been frustrating not being involved at Rotherham but this is an ideal opportunity for me now for a month at Fleetwood.
“It looks a good Club with a good set-up, and I’ve spoken to the manager previously as well as playing against him a few times.
“It’s an ideal time for me to come here as there’s some interesting games against some top teams coming up this month.
“I know the gaffer has been interested in me for a little while and he’s always looked at me, but the move came about last night and I drove over this morning.
“It’s been a quick turnaround but I’ve been expecting or waiting for this to happen having not been involved at Rotherham, so have been looking to get out on loan.
“Fleetwood have obviously risen through the leagues quite quickly and have a lot of different things going on.
“The training ground is going to be a good set-up when complete, and they’ve got a good management team who have been here a few years now.
“I’m feeling fit and I’m feeling fine. I did all the pre-season games at Rotherham and we’ve had reserve games too which I’ve played in every one. I’m raring to go.”
