Substitute Jamille Matt equalised for the Cod Army

Chris Maxwell’s injury time penalty save earned Town a point against North West rivals Rochdale at Highbury this afternoon.

The Welshman dived low to his left to keep out Ian Henderson’s spot kick after Peter Vincenti was brought down in the area.

Vincenti himself put Dale ahead in the second half with a back post header, before substitute Jamille Matt netted late on at the other end.

Speaking after the game, Maxwell said: “He put the ball to my right, I dived to my left and saved it. What else can I say!

“Luckily it was my day today and we managed to get a point out of it at the end.

“It was a difficult decision for the referee to give in the first place, but thankfully he didn’t score from it.

“I think we performed really well today and Rochdale did too. It was a typical League One football match.

“There was a lot of football played and there was physicality to it too. The scoreline in the end was probably a fair one.

“For their goal we switched off a little for a throw in and they’ve put a good ball into the box which the 6ft 5” winger isn’t going to miss.

“It was a difficult one to defend, but if we make slight adjustments and improvements during the week then we can stop that.”
