Boss hoping for a response from his players

Graham Alexander is looking forward to returning to home soil on Saturday afternoon for a Sky Bet League One clash against Port Vale.

His side have drawn their past two home games against Rochdale and Bradford City respectively, and he now hopes to pick up three points when they take on Vale.

Despite an encouraging second half performance at Wigan last weekend, Town were narrowly beaten at the DW Stadium.

Jordan Flores had given the Latics a first half advantage before Michael Jacobs doubled immediately after the interval.

Tyler Forbes reduced the arrears and gave the Cod Army a lifeline, but they were unable to net an elusive equaliser despite going close.

Alexander said: “There’s definitely been a response this week in training and we have to take that into Saturday’s game against Port Vale.

“Last Saturday was a disappointment for us but we ran them close for the last half an hour or so and could have possibly got something from it.

“We spoke to the players and showed them what we could have done better, and they can see that now and have worked extremely hard.

“We always know our players have got fantastic attitudes and great mentalities about themselves. They want to improve and work hard.

“It’s not always going to go our way but it’s important we realise why it didn’t go our way, and take it into practice into games.

“Port Vale have had a bit of a turnaround in personnel and their style of play. Tom Pope leaving for them meant it was a difference in direction.

“They’ll be a tough opposition but we have to concentrate on what we do well and what we can do better. It will be a competitive game.”
