Youth team player started two games for his country

Fleetwood Town youth team midfielder Tre Sterling recently appeared for Northern Ireland in the UEFA Under 17 Championships.

Sterling, a first year scholar with the Cod Army, has put in a number of impressive performances in the league for Town this season.

He started the recent game for Jim Magilton’s side against France as they lost 1-0, while coming on as a substitute in their 1-1 draw with Norway.

Sterling was handed another start for his country yesterday afternoon as they fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Israel.

Town’s youth team manager Nathan Rooney said: “Tre is always one of the first on the training field and is a respectful boy.

“He deserves his chance to represent his country in the right way. He represents himself in a professional manner on the pitch and off the pitch.”
