Pressley will be joined alongside Neil MacFarlane

Fleetwood Town are delighted to announce the appointment of Steven Pressley as the Club’s new first team manager.

The 41-year-old, who has previously managed Coventry City and Falkirk, will be joining the Cod Army alongside Neil MacFarlane.

Steven and Neil will both watch from the stands this evening as the Cod Army host Shrewsbury Town in the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

The new manager will be in place for Saturday’s League One clash against his former employers, Coventry City, at Highbury Stadium.

Chairman Andy Pilley said: “I am really pleased with the appointment. Steven has done an excellent job in incredibly difficult circumstances at the two football clubs he has been at before.

“We truly believe given the stability, the continuality and the facilities we have at Fleetwood Town, we have all ingredients to supply any manager with a great opportunity and we think Steven will be a great success.

“There were various standards and attributes that we were looking for. We spoke to a lot of people in football and the feedback was consistent.

“Steven is very hard working, he is intelligent and he has his own ideas how the game should be played which appeals to myself personally and the other senior management within the club.

“We want to play an exciting style of football that will entertain the public. It is a matter of fact that Steven has done very well at clubs in difficult situations. We are convinced he will do very well at Fleetwood Town given everything that we have to offer him.

“It has been very flattering some of the names that have applied for the position and a reflection of how far the Club has progressed.

“We have got our first choice and the man that we wanted. We will work with Steven now to make sure it is a happy and successful time for Fleetwood Town.”

Chris Lucketti and the current backroom staff will remain at the Club.

Everyone at Fleetwood Town would like to welcome Steven and Neil to the Club.
