Rooney: Saturday was a great response from the players

Town's youth team won 3-0 against Accrington Stanley

Fleetwood Town youth team manager Nathan Rooney stated his delight at his side’s 3-0 win away at Accrington Stanley on Saturday morning.

Goals from Jordan Hancox, Liam Wood and Wes Nelson secured all three-points for the young Codlings, who bounced back in style following defeat away Preston North End.

In an interview with the Club’s official website, Rooney was pleased with the manner of the response in which his players showed.

He said: “It’s a good response following on from an unfortunate defeat against Preston North End last Saturday.

“We’ve had a really strong week, and the momentum from the Bolton Wanders game in midweek went through to Saturday’s game. It was a good performance.

“Sometimes you have to look at the opposition, and I just felt comfortable once the game kicked-off.

“I think we created enough from the off, and I knew that we’d manage the game throughout, so it was only going to be time before we got that clean-sheet and the goal tally higher.

“I said to the lads throughout the week, when you’re playing poorly teams aren’t really breaking you down, and that’s a positive.

“We also have to be rewarded for all this hard work within the system that we’re playing. In two games we have scored seven goals and conceded one only.

Following the win at Bacup, Rooney was quick to praise all elements of his playing squad, who have enjoyed a fine start to the 2015/16 Youth Alliance season.

“A lot of the forwards always get the main part of the feedback as they’re the ones putting the ball in the net.

“Jordan Hancox is the workaholic, and just overall the lads are doing well with their individual roles, and performance wise they’re doing really well.”
