Proctor's first half goal earned the three points
Steven Pressley hailed his players as they carried out a professional performance to pick up three points against Barnsley at Oakwell this afternoon.Jamie Proctor netted the game’s only goal just before the half hour mark as he burst forward and coolly slotted past Nick Townsend.
The result in South Yorkshire lifts Town out of the relegation places and they welcome Chesterfield to Highbury next weekend.
After the game, Pressley said: “Moving forward it isn’t the type of performance I want to see week in week out in terms of the fluency of our play.
“But in terms of the attitude, professionalism, will to win and the desire to carry out the defensive work they were incredible.
“I’m really proud of them today because we proved that we can win in other ways. The midfielders, the back four and the front three worked exceptionally hard to deny Barnsley.
“Winning like we did is a significant step for us because we’ve taken six points over the last eight days against three very good teams.
“Two clubs with significant budgets in this division in Barnsley and Sheffield United, so for us to take six from nine is a great credit to the players.”
Pressley paid tribute to striker Proctor for his contribution against the Tykes as he led the line superbly all afternoon.
“I had a go at Proc for his performance on Tuesday night and as manager that’s all you can ask for is a response.
“I thought his response today was a phenomenal one; he led the line brilliantly and worked tirelessly for the team.
“When you work in that manner you get your breaks. He showed good speed to take the ball forward and scored a composed finish.
“Number nine’s will be judged by their goals and he’s scored two in his last three which is good for him.”
