Development squad won 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon

Barry Nicholson stated that the performance was more pleasing than the result as Fleetwood Town’s development squad beat Morecambe 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

The game offered some of the Club’s more experienced players an opportunity to gain match fitness and impress new manager Steven Pressley who was in attendance.

Bobby Grant netted three and Eddie Dsane scored twice, while Lyle Della-Verde, Bradley Roscoe, David Ball and Joe Davis also got on the scoresheet.

After the game, Nicholson said: “I was delighted with the result but probably more importantly the performance. It was very good from start to finish.

“Morecambe were a pretty young side compared to ourselves, but obviously the new manager wanted to have a look at the experienced players we had playing.

“Their attitude and application to the game was first class. We found ourselves 6-0 up at half time with the likes of David Ball and Bobby Grant getting 45 minutes.

“Bobby’s got really, really good ability and picks the ball up in great areas of the pitch in that position behind the strikers.

“He’s got a great left foot on him and scored three great goals. Another thing he brings to the team is that he’s got great delivery from set-pieces.

“These games with the experienced players are brilliant for the young lads so they can learn and listen to them.

“For them to be able to listen to lads who have got hundreds of games under their belts will be beneficial to them in the long run.

“These young lads are just starting their careers, so for them to pick up things from the experienced boys is great.”
