Cod Army host Salop at Highbury in the JPT Trophy

Fleetwood Town caretaker manager Chris Lucketti wants the Cod Army faithful to get behind the players for Tuesday night’s JPT Trophy game against Shrewsbury Town.

Town were given a bye in the first round, so enter the competition at the second stage with the visit of Salop to the Fylde Coast.

Lucketti believes though that with the support of the home fans, his players can progress in a competition which they reach the area final in only a couple of seasons ago.

He said: “The players and the crowd have to stick together. The players need the crowd to vocally back them.

“I know the the players will give them all they’ve got, and to be successful you need the two together.

“The fans are great here. They travelled a hell of a distance to Gillingham last Tuesday, and they were at Scunthorpe too and supported the team as best as they could.

“They’ve had a decent start and have got some good players with a strong squad, so we know it will be tough, but every week is tough and we need to concentrate on ourselves.

“We got to the Northern Final a few seasons ago, and it certainly becomes exciting when you get into the later rounds.”

Lucketti praised youngster Jack Sowerby who has started both of Town’s last two games as he looks to break into the side.

“Jack has been superb since pre-season. He’s been knocking on the door and we gave him his opportunity last Tuesday.

“He did great again at Scunthorpe but he cramped up as you’d expect as he’s adjusting to life at first-team level and certainly put in a very good performance.”
