Young striker made an impact as a substitute

Caretaker manager Chris Lucketti praised the impact substitute Ash Hunter had on the game as Town progressed to the next round of the JPT Trophy on Tuesday night.

The Cod Army secured their passage thanks to two second half goals from Hunter and Bobby Grant, which cancelled out Junior Brown’s opener.

Victory meant a run of four straight defeats came to an end, and attentions now turn to Saturday’s Sky Bet League One encounter against Coventry City.

Lucketti said: “I’m absolutely delighted for the lads as they were fantastic. The tempo and their desire in the second half was just superb.

“It’s a testing time for the lads right now coming off the results we’ve had, and when you go 1-0 down it’s quite easy for some players to fall.

“I think the introduction of Ash Hunter just gave us a spark which we were missing at times, and he also sparked the crowd into life.

“He sparked them with his sheer work rate and effort, and you could see how everybody reacted to him. You couldn’t not be impressed by him.

“He’s put himself in a great position by scoring the goal because the new manager was here watching tonight.

“Their defence had a physical problem with Proc and Jamma, but all of a sudden they had a different problem to contend with when Ash came on.

“In the second half we’ve hit the crossbar and the post, and when we put Bobby Grant on we were all thinking about the penalties.

“It was looking that way so I thought I’d get him on the pitch, but I was obviously delighted when he smashed one in the top corner.”
