Youth team drew 0-0 with Blackpool on Tuesday

Fleetwood Town youth team manger Nathan Rooney was content with a point away at rivals Blackpool on Tuesday afternoon.

In blustery conditions, the young Cod Army managed the game well and continued their good start to the season with a share of the spoils at Squires Gate.

After the game, Rooney said: “The weather conditions hindered parts of our performance throughout the game, but to be fair to Blackpool they were on top in the first half.

“They were getting a lot of crosses into the box but we dealt with that defensively. We were committed and had loads of intent to defend effectively.

“We hit them on the break throughout the game but unfortunately the one on one chances didn’t quite come off for us.

“The clean sheet was a positive for us. The lads are now understanding that their discipline and game understanding is important.

“We now want to look at how we can start creating more when going forward. We’re trying to mirror what the first team do.

“As that goes though we just want to make sure training is right over the next week before we face  Tranmere, and that we start creating opportunties.

“It’s about keeping committed for us as a team now and winning those individual battles. We need to turn defensive rewards into attacking opportunities.”
