Town host Sheffield United in the JPT trophy

Steven Pressley sees Tuesday night’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash against Sheffield United as a real opportunity for his side to move a step closer to the Wembley final.

The Cod Army host the Blades at Highbury in the quarter-final stage and are only three games away from the showpiece.

Town exited the FA Cup at the first round stage on Saturday as they were beaten 2-0 by Walsall at the Banks’s Stadium, so will want to progress against Nigel Adkins’ side.

Pressley said: “I think this cup competition for teams like ourselves is probably the most realistic competition for us in terms of getting to Wembley.

“It’s a real opportunity for us and we’re only three games away from that. It’s a cup competition which we’re certainly not taking lightly.

“It’s a cup competition we want to progress in on Tuesday night so we’ll be doing everything possible to do that.

“It helps that we played them recently because we can improve on that performance. We want to get the right result.

“I said after the game on Saturday that I was encouraged by a lot of aspects of our play, and in reflection my opinion doesn’t change.

“I said what I did after the game and that’s still how I feel at this moment in time. Our second half performance was as good a half since I’ve been here.

“We have to show a greater desire to score goals though. When that ball gets flashed in across the goal we have to show a desire to put that ball in the net.

“If we have a night like it is today then we have to show the correct mentality because games like this can be decided on mentality.”
