Steven Pressley hopes this evening’s JPT Trophy quarter final victory over Sheffield United will help to boost confidence amongst his Town players.

The Cod Army beat the Blades in a penalty shootout after the game had ended goalless after 90 minutes.

Chris Maxwell saved two penalties to help his side progress, with youngster Nick Haughton sealing the win in front of the Percy Ronson stand.

Pressley said: “I’m delighted because this is a competition I would like to see us progress in. It gives clubs like ourselves an opportunity to play at Wembley.

“We’re three games away from that now and it’s an exciting proposition for us all at this Club.

“We’re really pleased to have picked up a win against a huge club in Sheffield United. Although they changed things tonight, they played players of real standing.

“The changes don’t significantly effect them so all in all it was a really positive result.

“The most important thing is and I’ve said this since the first day I came in is that we win games of football.

“Winning breeds confidence and there was a really good feel about the players in the dressing room afterwards.

“We’re denying teams to very few opportunities over the course of the 90 minutes, but I want to turn these performances into more creative ones.

“We’re very anxious in the final third and just need to believe in ourselves more. At times we’re trying to force the final pass.

“We just need a little bit of calmness and belief in that area and slowly but surely that will come.”
