Skipper relishing Bloomfield Road clash this weekend

Nathan Pond says he knows what it’ll mean to a number of the Cod Army supporters when they face Blackpool on Saturday.

Town travel to Bloomfield Road for a first ever league clash against the two teams, and it’s a fixture that Pond is very much relishing.

The Tangerines were 5-1 winners when the sides last met each other at Highbury in the FA Cup in 2012, with Jamie Vardy netting the home goal.

But Pond admits things have changed since that day, and believes they can extend their recent winning run against the Tangerines.

He said: “Everyone’s looking forward to Saturday’s game because it’s a local derby. We haven’t played them in a league match before so it’s exciting.

“They were in the Premier League the last time we played them and we were in the Conference, but now we’re on a level playing field.

“There wasn’t too much in the game really but they were very clinical in front of goal that day. They won’t have the same quality of players on Saturday though.

“It’s a derby game so I’m sure their fans will be up for it too. Anything can happen in a derby but we just need to concentrate on ourselves.

“Our last two games have been very good performances but there’s still room for improvement. We need to keep clean sheets.

“I want to win every game I play but I know what it means for a lot of the Fleetwood fans and the people who have been here for a long time.

“If we perform like we have done over the past couple of games, then I’m sure we’ll give ourselves a great chance of winning it.”
