Midfielder follows Ash Hunter to the Cod Army

Fleetwood Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of highly-rated midfielder Akil Wright from Ilkeston.

Wright follows in the footsteps of youngster Ash Hunter, who signed a deal with the Cod Army from Ilkeston earlier on in the campaign.

A holding midfielder, Wright has been a key player for the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side this season, and has caught the eye with a number of impressive performances.

He will now look to break into Graham Alexander’s first team set-up, and replicate the success of the likes of Nick Haughton, Tyler Forbes, Jack Sowerby and Hunter.

Speaking to the Club’s media team, he said: “I’m very excited to be here. When I found out about the move I was over the moon and I can’t wait to get started now.

“I found out about the move on Wednesday afternoon so it was very surprising but exciting at the same time.

“I know Ash Hunter well from our time at Ilkeston and hopefully I’ll settle in as well as he has.

“I haven’t spoken to Ash about it but from what I’ve heard he’s been doing very well here.

“My aim is to break into the first team as soon as possible.

“I’m a hard working midfielder who plays box-to-box and likes to get on the ball.

“I want to continue to develop between now and the end of the season, and to break into the first team as quickly as I can.”
