Jack Sowerby scored for Town just after the hour mark

Fleetwood Town’s development squad drew 1-1 against Premier League side Burnley this afternoon.

The Cod Army took the lead just after the hour mark when a ball in from the right was headed home by Jack Sowerby.

Burnley equalised though with 12 minutes to go when Marvin Sordell struck a rocket from 25 yards to earn a share of the spoils.

After the game, Barry Nicholson said: “I was really happy with today’s performance as it was a good one from start to finish.

“We let Burnley back in it a bit after we scored and they eventually got the equaliser, but once they scored we started playing again.

“It was a great goal by Jack and I’m generally pleased for him.

“Antoni Sarcevic has obviously been suspended recently so he played for us, but apart from that he was the only first teamer.

“He wanted to some minutes under his belt, and we had a couple of trialists playing as well and they did okay too.

“All the other boys were Under 21 lads, and we made a few substitutions late on as well which meant a few of the youth team lads had an opportunity.”
