Samuel and Nouble broke Town hearts in the final moments

Graham Alexander was disappointed that his Town side couldn’t hang on for at least a point against Coventry City at Highbury this evening.

Dominic Samuel gave City the lead in the 88th minute when he raced through on goal and coolly slotted beyond Chris Maxwell.

And the Sky Blues doubled their advantage in the final few seconds of the game when Frank Nouble tapped in after the ball had ricocheted off Maxwell.

Speaking after the game, Alexander said: “I thought with 10 minutes to go that a point would have been a good point for us, and we should have got it so it’s really disappointing.

“The lads have got nothing to be sorry about because they’ve come up against a good team.

“There wasn’t much goalmouth action from both teams really. We were both organised, controlled and disciplined.

“You get games like that but when you’ve got to make sure you see them through an take what you can get.

“To concede the first goal so late in the game when I didn’t think they’d hurt us really in terms of chances was disappointing.

“As the home team we’ve brought on a couple of attacking subs to see if we can force the issue without losing our defensive discipline.

“We did create a couple of little opportunities where we needed the final pass or the final finish, but it wasn’t to be.

“It’s disappointing considering the two previous performances and results, but this has been our season so far and we’re not going to go overboard with the players as they’ve been magnificent.

“We can’t question their desire and commitment to the game, but we just lost a little bit of focus right at the end.

“Win or lose I still get the same feeling of motivation from them. They always train to their maximum and give you everything during the game.”
